While not the biggest fan of zombie films, 28 Days Later is a gem amongst the pile of garbage. While not perfect by any means, and not aging particularly well, this is a solid film from end to end. With good characters, a great intro/ending, and some basic but well-done commentary on society and humanity. Being a fan of The Walking Dead comics, it's interesting to compare these two works and their approach to combining the apocalyose with their themes of humanity's flaws. Obviously the genre has been a bit overdone since this film came out, but 28 Days really does an exceptional job with crafting a thematic storyline. I also really enjoyed a lot of the visuals in the film, at least when it wasn't tainted by some cringey aughts editing and writing. The horror is pretty good as well although not exactly a super scary film per se. While definitely similar to many other zombie movies, this is definitely one of the better ones.
