Dieser Film ist der erster deutshce Kriegsfilm, den ich gesehen habe. Es ist eine interessante Perspektive, besonders während WWI. Leider meine Deutsch ist nicht genug zu die Film in seiner Muttersprache geschauen. The movie is good in many ways, but also mediocre in others. Pretty much everything to do with the basics of film, the audio and visuals, is top notch. The visuals especially; apart from some spotty CGI blood, the movie looks stunning throughout. The sharp colors, ambient environments, and extremely well made battle sequences make this movie as good as it is. The audio in general is also great, especially the music. However, the movie is lacking when it comes to other sections. The writing overall is fine. The characters are mostly likeable, although I feel that the movie had a hard time introducing us to each one and letting us get to know them personally. Maybe this was by design, but each soldier seemed like a copy of the one before. They just had very little personality to grab onto. Not that there wasn't character-building moments throughout the film, but I can't think of a unique character trait to speak of. In terms of the story, its pretty good. The beginning and ending are great from a thematic standpoint and really drive the story's message home in a great way, but there's not much else. This is certainly an interesting watch and a great film not just of war but also about war. However the actual substance of the storytelling and writing just isn't up to stuff with many other films of its ilk. Still fun to watch and think about, just don't go in expecting some kind of masterpiece in screenwriting.
