Avatar Fire and Ash

This is the pefect kind of "bad" movie. I knew the exact emotions I would have leaving the theater and I still was excited to go, simply because these movies are fun to watch. The visuals are still incredible, and Cameron keeps inventing new worldbuilding aspects that just look and feel incredible on the big screen. The action is still good, although definitely a little stale. The main gripes I have with the film are the same as Avatar 2: poor writing, uninteresting characters, and the runtime. I mean this film has a lot of really good moments, and I can't think of any individual scene to completely remove, but sitting and watching a film for 3 hours that barely builds on the work of the previous is just unacceptable. In terms of the characters, they're basically the same as the previous film. It feels a bit better now that we have had some time to get to know the slew of new additions from the previous film, but these characters don't really change as people that much throughout the film and often have such bad writing that I simply don't care. I'm really talking about Spider, who I thought was an odd addition to the previous film and is possibly even more out of place now. Doesn't help that the acting is pretty shit, but I give some grace because of the writing and the fact he's the only main character that doesn't get to hide behind a mocap suit. Anyway, the worldbuilding and general direction of the series seems to be going in an interesting direction, but I'm worried it's just not getting there fast enough. After the incredible inventions of the original, and the interesting addtitions and foils of the second, this film just feels flat. Although, perhaps contradictory, I feel like watching it again.
