Casino
Martin Scorsese
Directed by:
1995

Because I have watched Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street before, it's easy to see the similarities between these three movies. And while all three benefit in different ways from this half-narration style, Casino benefits the least. While the story is loaded with narration in the front half, the back half felt slow and less interesting. You could approximate the ending about halfway through the movie and yet the story continues with the less interesting plot points for another good hour. The most interesting parts of the movie are when Ace is running the Casino, but these moments are all in the beginning and are fleeting. The acting is really good from all characters, and so are the characters themselves. The drama can feel a little forced at times, and I think the narration maybe could have done a better job at fixing that, however it's still solid throughout. While a good movie, Casino mainly serves as a comparison to better Scorsese movies.
