I have, of course, heard a lot of positive things about this film prior to seeing it for the first time recently. And after seeing it on the big screen, I am happy to report that this film is indeed pretty damn good. I knew a little about the themes of the film but was not prepared for how deeply the movie dived into gang violence in Brazil, in addition to exploring several different character relationships within this struggle. The film is at least partially based on actual events, which only adds to the marketed reality that the film sells through its interesting style and writing. The story can feel drawn out at times, however there are plenty of interesting scenes and smaller narratives that keep you engaged. The narration is also really good, an enjoyable addition to the story that adds a lot of depth to the main character. This is a classic crime film that I will be watching again.
