This is possibly the best political comedy I have ever seen. The plot elements and events are laughably stupid, and the characters take themselves hilariously seriously. Sure, the exaggerated charactures of several Cold War tropes (such as the nuke-crazy general or the Nazi bomb maker) are funny in and of themselves, but the specific events and happenings of the story make this film what it is. The comedy pairs extremely well with the themes of MAD and sexuality, with the exaggerated stupidity of the characters making me more scared of nuclear annihilation than I have been since I first learned about nukes in elementary school. Seriously, almost every aspect of this film is comedic in such a uniquly dark and yet hilarious way. This is a masterclass of a film and honestly, despite its dark themes, a fun watch.
