I thought this was going to be a very good movie for about the first half, but it quickly lost all direction or focus. All of the events and themes in the film, derived from happenings and culture of 2020, were seemingly thrown in for no reason other than their temporal connection to one another. While many of these themes worked great with one another (i.e. lockdown, social media, social distancing), others straight up didn't. This misdirection and outright ridiculous inclusion of ANTIFA really soured the last act for me. But let's mention some high notes; the acting was superb, especially Phoenix of course, in addition to solid character writing and visuals. I also really enjoyed the exploration of certain themes in the beginning of the film, it's just sad they couldn't really wrap things up in any meaningful way. With a cast this stacked, with so many interesting aspects of the pandemic to consider, and with a really interesting premise, it's almost astonishing how this film didn't turn out better. But the questionable writing/thematic tones made me leave the theater very dissapointed.
