Forty Guns

This is certainly an American Western, but that's about as much as I can say about this one. It starts off kind of strong, with a majestic shot and introduction into one of the main antagonists riding with her crew. But the movie itself doesn't live up to it. Her character is reduced to nothingness by the end of the film, if there was any to begin with. This goes for most of the characters; it seems the writers took almost every trope about classic westerns and threw them in a pile together. A lot happens in this small town, but not much of it has an emotional impact on the viewer. There are some cool shots and scenes to be sure, and the actual shot makeup and effects are quite good. There is simply not enough meat on these bones to make this an enjoyable watch, especially if Westerns aren't your fetish.
