Furiosa A Mad Max Saga

Coming off of the last Mad Max movie, this one was definitely a dissapointment on a lot of fronts. George Miller left his fingerprints all over this movie in a lot of good ways, with this film keeping the strong visual style and action setpieces like the last one. However, there were a lot of things about this film that simply did not work. While the visuals and action were good, they definitely relied a lot on CGI. While this isn't bad, the last film did not rely on this nearly as much, and it really shows in Furiosa, where there are simply a lot of scenes and shots that look odd. Again, its still good for the most part, but it really took me out of any kind of immersion with the world or characters. Speaking of world and characters, these aspects of the film were the biggest downgrade for me. Furiosa is still an interesting character but she falls too quickly into the exact character trope that we knew from the last film; that of a barely-talking badass. This is fine but it doesn't leave room for development outside of random stuff happening to her. I would say she lacks agency in the story but she makes up for it with the action scenes I guess. In addition, the strong world themes that made the last film really interesting, such as the ecological destruction and objectification of women, are pretty much absent in this film, and nothing new comes in to fill that void. So in a prequel devoid of the themes, fast-paced story, and top of the line action that the first film was known for, Furiosa falls a little short of being a true sucessor to the awesome Mad Max Fury Road.
