High and Low
Akira Kurosawa
Directed by:
1963

Holy (Heaven and) hell was this a good crime thriller. I knew very little about this movie going into it, and that was all the better for me. The beginning third of the film dragged me in with its high intensity dramatic sequences, making me foolishly believe this film would stay stuck to this course for the rest of its rather lengthy runtime. However, it surprised and surpassed my expectations for where the film was willing to go, both literally and thematically. The themes themselves were great, this may be a weird comparison but it reminds me a lot of Parasite. The thrills and camerawork may even be better here, the framing is incredible to watch alongside the gripping drama and thriller. What else can I say? Its great. Go watch it.
