Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg

This is one of the first movies that comes to mind when I think of a modern classic in cinema, because that is exactly what this is. The cultural impact that this movie had on the world was massive, and even after 5 more movies in the series, nothing has topped this one. Not to say that it's amazing, but its pretty good, and has a lot of good qualities that make it an enjoyable thrill ride. The CGI is actually really solid, especially in the night scenes, but with age, its a little rough around the edges. The story and characters are a little dated as well, but even saying that is being too nit picky. The film tries to push some messaging about computers, scientific progress, and modern capitalism, but they aren't explored too well, as this is still just a Hollywood blockbuster, not a thematically rich art film. If you want a fun, slightly scary, exciting sci-fi film, there's not many movies better than this. Also, it has big dinosaurs, so its cool.
