M is an extremely interesting film from both an artistic and technical standpoint. This is probably the earliest film I have ever seen that centers around the now-typical "catching the murderer" plot, and it was done here to great affect. The visuals and audio are by far the most interesting part of the film, with several great visual tropes and shots that make the film both beautiful and captivating. The audio is also a major part of the film, and there are several unique techniques used to make the audio pop. However, the constant silence that comes with some of the scenes, while cool and a nice contrast to the audio, is sometimes obviously a technical limitation. The story starts off basic and little boring, but the ending act is incredibly interesting and takes a couple twists and turns that I was not expecting. Overall, a very well done film that should serve as a benchmark for all future movies of its type.
