I think this is the first time I have seen this particular entry into this series that I love, and I'm glad for it. This should be a total embarrasement to almost everyone who was involved. I don't know if the ugly shots, slo-mo usage, and terribly edited action sequences would have passed as acceptable back when this film was made, but it certainly isn't to me. It's incredible that a series whose sequel was as big of a step back as this one went on to produce some actually great films decades into the future. The only bright spots here are the actual decent story and premise, as well as not-terrible acting from most of the characters, although the latter really is debateable amidst the atrocious writing. I hated the forced relationship that Hunt is put into, it just doesn't add anything to the film in a meaningful way and is just given too much importance. The general character writing is also awful, Hunt is given no additional depth and his sidekicks barely have a personality to begin with. Even the typical ex-IMF villain has no substance and is a shell of his counterpart in the other films. Overall a movie that I will not lose sleep over, ever.
