Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning
Christopher McQuarrie

Definitely not the ending to this series I was hoping for, but a fitting one. Final Reckoning is an amalgamation of many things that make movies great. The incredible stunts and action sequences, the great visuals, and a standard Hollywood globe-trotting adventure. Cruise does some of his best work yet for this film, with the stunt work being some of the best ever put to screen, even with the hilarious disregard for realism. However this movie probably has more shortcomings than successes. For one, the story and characters are just weak. This has never been a strength of the M:I series, but that doesn't excuse the lack of character development for the new team members, in addition to their near uselessness to the mission. The story itself is a bit off, it feels like the writers didn't know where to take the story after the last film. Another one of my major gripes is with the antagonists, or lack thereof. "The Entity" (stupid name) is barely shown at all even though its literally the main antagonist, and Gabriel, while great at times, is a much weaker villain here than in the previous film and he also doesn't get much time on the screen. This leaves the ending feeling a bit bland in my opinion. Make no mistake though, this is an exciting film to watch. While you may need to ignore some of the more fantastical story elements to enjoy it, Final Reckoning is a solid sendoff for Cruise's greatest legacy.
