Persona

I have heard that writing about Persona is the true test of a critic, so naturally this has me self conscious about my review. However I'll do my best to discard those feelings and write about what I truly feel about this incredible film. This is a movie with many ideas, many themes, and many interpretations, all of which are entirely interesting on their own and deserve thought. However, it can without a doubt be said that this is a movie about movies, a movie about people both on the inside and outside. Can we ever know someone else? Can we ever be someone else? These are a sample of some of the many questions that pop up in my head while watching this film, and I find it hard to come to terms with any of them. Its rare that a film is able to make me think so much and conclude so little; and yet I feel like I have learned so much from such a relatively short piece of art. I have watched it twice in two days and yet I am ready to watch it again, to see and hear more than I did before. The imagery and camerawork speaks for itself, connecting beautifully with the themes laced throughout the film. The two main characters are enchanting as well, both deeply explored in their own ways. Its a movie that many people will not understand, and that's okay. It's not meant to be fully understood, at least not entirely. However if I ever am looking for a movie that will make me question myself and my worldview more than any other, Persona is definitely the film I would turn to.
