Ponyo was the first Ghibli film I had the pleasure of seeing, way back in the day. I remember loving it as a kid, watching it over and over until eventually I grew bored. Even after watching it enough to memorize every line and scene, Ponyo still blows me away to this day. I was worried that my bias towards this movie would affect my review, but this is such a fun, well-made movie that it's hard not to fall in love. Ponyo is wonderfully animated, voiced, and written for anyone to enjoy. It's a simple story, which can sometimes be a little boring, but watching the film fills one with an overwhelming sense of relaxation and awe. This is thanks to the absolutely beautiful animation and well-written characters. While it's definitely a movie I have to be in a certain mood to watch, Ponyo will always be one of my favorite movies ever.
