Porco Rosso
Hayao Miyazaki
Directed by:
1992

Porco Rosso is a surprisingly good movie for it's ridiculous premise. While the fact that the main character is a pig can be quite odd, the movie embraces that odd fact very easily and comfortably. The animation is of course great, which is a given coming from a Studio Ghibli film. The landscapes are also especially beautiful here. While the story can seem a bit too loose at some points, the characters carry the movie instead, especially Porco and Fio. The soundtrack isn't all that, especially considering the great soundtracks that are present in other animated works of the time, but it's still solid. The action is simply bad, and the climatic ending is kind of ruined by having the two fighters stop midway through the fight in favor of a slower, weirder ending. Despite it's faults, still a great movie and definitely worth the watch.
