This film was near the top of my list for movies to watch, and I'm glad I finally viewed this Scorsese classic. Not only is this a classic example of the Scorsese formula, but it's one of his best. Boasting a great cast of wonderful actors, smart and effective visuals that don't distract from the story, and plenty of memorable drama and character writing. The boxing scenes are especially great, especially the ones near the end of the film, especially the sound design and visuals. I enjoyed the themes of the film as well, seeing the contrast between LaMotta's ring and family life was interesting and started a nice conversation within myself as to man's nature. The nature of this being a biography makes the third act a little slow and dragging, but this is also a reflection of LaMotta's life so this is not necessarily a terrible thing. Definitely a must-see for those who like movies.
