The Rules of the Game

I didn't really "get" this film for the most part upon first watching it, but after discussing it with others I have a pretty good appreciationg and understanding for what this film was trying to achieve. In retrospect, the rather obvious portrayal of the bourgeois is actually pretty funny at times, even in a horrifying way. The changing antagonistic forces of the story were intriguing, and I liked how the shifting dynamics and interests of the characters were a reflection of real people's sensibilities and actions. The general audio and visuals weren't amazing by any standards, but the film looks good and has a lot of smart editing choices to accentuate its themes and ideas. Will definitely need to revisit this one before I definitively give a read on it, but this is an interesting film nonetheless, especially for its time.
