While I didn't even know of its existance before watching it, I am glad I watched the previous Scarface film. The story is a pretty close mapping of the original, improving on a lot of the story beats along the way. There are some changes that I didn't like, but many more I did. The overall visual quality is the biggest improvement, closely followed by the more colorful characters and actors. I enjoyed the new setting in Miami, but it feels weird for this story to have originally been about Capone now taking place somewhere that's not at least plausibly Chicago. This doesn't really matter for the story however. The action is especially brutal, and serves as the main entertainment in a lot of scenes even though it's more focused on gore than substance. Honestly, Montana's overall demeanour and accent really got on my nerves as well. Still a pretty fun film to watch all things considered. Al Pacino kinda rocks.
