This movie is incredible. Its amazing visual style, great story, and exciting action all culminate in delivering a fantastic film. The visual style is the best thing here, with great cinematography and locations making this movie look amazing. Even though it's in black and white, I think this helps the movie slightly. The action is also quite good, although visibly old. I love the fact that since this movie is so old, everything seen was really done, without the help of VFX. The deaths were a bit lackluster at times, which is my main gripe, however I also liked how the deaths of major characters weren't over dramatized. The battles seemed tense and dangerous because the movie stayed so grounded in reality. The themes of war were prevalent throughout the story, and had profound impacts on the characters. The story and the characters are also really good, and it is enjoyable to watch them go through their character beats and arcs all together. The story is slightly better than the characters that go through it, but only by a little. This is one of the best foreign films I have ever seen, and there is little to complain about here.
