The French Dispatch

What's not to like about Wes Anderson films? They're not at all my favorite movies out there, but they're extremly good and enjoyable. The French Dispatch joins Anderson's catalouge of great movies without a doubt. The visual style is of course impeccable (except for the comic style that is seen in the third story, I thought it sucked) (although honestly I think Anderson should try something kinda new eventually), and I really liked the three story nature of the film. However, the three story structure does have one major flaw in this case: they don't fit together all that well. While of course they are connected in a way, the actual events of the stories themselves are not at all, which kind of makes the movie seem like you're watching a marathon of TV episodes. Anyway, the acting is good but not great (although Anderson's style I don't think allows for more emotional moments, so not a huge drag on the film), and the characters are very good. It's crazy how many big stars Anderson got in this movie, and they all fit in really well with their well written characters. Really good movie that is enjoyable throughout, although the second story was a bit weird.
