The Gleaners and I
Agnès Varda
Directed by:
2000

I want to preface this by saying I really enjoyed this film, if you can even call it that. This is almost like a documentary, but I find it hard to call it that too. There are no characters or acting or plot, its just a collection of trips around the country as the director films herself and those around her who glean off the countryside and city streets. There are a multitude of interesting people and places to learn about, and that's honestly what I enjoyed the most. The themes of gleaning, age, death, and rebirth are strong and interesting to think about during the short runtime. There's not much I can say wrong about this film, its just a short, simple, enjoyable little piece of art. Its a window into the past and into the worlds of others. I'm struggling to equate this film into my review system, so the score might change over time, but this is honestly more enjoyable to watch than every other documentary I've seen.
