The Life of Chuck

I wasn't sure what to expect from my first non-horror Stephen King film, but Life of Chuck is actually pretty good. There are so many different aspects and choices in this film that I loved, such as the intriguing first act and the semi-fantastical elements to the narrative. The general tone and message of the film was great as well, I love simple yet deeply emotional storytelling. All the writing and acting is good too, I was certainly involved in the film while watching. However, there are also several parts of the film that make me think this might have been better received as a short film rather than feature length. For one, the first act, while interesting, doesn't play as big a role in the rest of the film as I might have expected. In addition, the ending is a bit abrupt and doesn't tie in the rest of the film very much, which in a story structured like this one is definitely a miss. The individual scenes were great, even the beginning and end despite my complaints, but it just feels a little incomplete. Still, I can't say I didn't enjoy it quite a bit, and I definitely recommend Life of Chuck as a film that can make you both cry and think.
