The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a very visually and thematically intriguing movie. The locale and music set the stage wonderfully, and the acting and visuals carry the rest of the movie. The acting really is amazing from both Pattison and Dafoe. Also, the visual style as well as the lighting and shot selection are masterful. While the story is fine, it's definitely not the focal point of the movie at all. The story itself is kind of non-existent, or at least very very short and comprised of more rising tension than anything else. The characters are pretty good, and it's interesting to see them interact with one another, but this movie is so vague that it's hard to call these characters well fleshed out. The rising tension and horror that comes with this movie is great, and I loved watching it throughout. While I can't imagine myself watching this movie again anytime soon, it's defenitely one that I recommend.
