The Shining
Stanley Kubrick
Directed by:
1980

The Shining is my all time favorite horror movie, without question. This film is just a masterpiece throughout, even if it has a few mistakes. One mistake is the long and drawn out nature of the film. While I appreciate this style in the beginning of the movie, once the action picks up it starts to become a drag. However, this movie is still expertly paced in the middle. Many of the best scenes of the movie is during this middle section, as we watch the Torrences get accustomed to their new environment in different ways. However, my favorite scene in the whole movie is the scene in the bathroom (while there are many scenes in bathrooms, I'm talking about the one with the Butler in the Gold Room). The acting is outstanding, especially from Nicholson, and the visuals and soundtrack pair up perfectly to build suspense. If you want to watch something scary but don't want many cheap jumpscares, this is prefect movie. Thanks Stanley.
