When writing a review for one of the most talked-about, watched, and successful films of all time, there's little I feel like I can add. Yeah, it's a classic in cinematic history that should be watched by almost everyone. Yeah, the visuals and sets are incredible and still hold up to this day. And yeah, there was a lot of fucked up stuff that happened on set. I'll just add a few of my thoughts to this over-mentioned work of art. For one, it has not held up perfectly. The story and acting are the major sore thumbs to me, I'd guess that a film with the exact same story/songs wouldn't even reach the theaters if released today. Just a different era I suppose, if not for the catchy tunes this film would be borderline unwatchable to a modern audience. Luckily those tunes are quite catchy, carrying the film throughout. The Wizard of Oz is honestly better suited as something in a museum, and I can't help geeking out over the various advancements in cinematic culture and technology that were made alongside this work. Something that I can always enjoy when it's playing in the background. Plus it has the lollipop guild.
