You Only Live Twice

This movie got worse and worse as it went on. I thought it might be a classic Bond after a well-choreographed fight scene early on set the bar, but this film never again reached that level of quality. Somehow the women are written even poorer than before. I believe that this film did not stick with the story written by Ian Flemming, and it really shows. The script takes every opportunity to have half-naked women falling all over Bond. This would be slightly excusable if they at least wrote the characters to do this for a reason, but nope. The women just fall in love with Bond with no buildup. every. time. Moving past the terrible writing of the characters (without even touching on the non-female ones), the visuals were also quite bad at times. The green screen effects especially, how did that make it into the final cut? Especially the helicopter scene, I was laughing so hard at how awful the action was. The over-the-top battle at the end of the film had potential, but the editing was terrible and the action was sub-par. Also, it seems like half of the plot points or important scenes were just lifted from previous Connery Bond movies. Like, looking for a secret base in a helicopter? The villain has a pool of carnivorous fish? Bond hooks up with a woman in a lift raft? The woman Bond sleeps with is actually the villain? Its so reused. Corniness and misogyny aside, this film just isn't that well-written, acted, filmed or edited. The writers should have focused on better choreography and tension-building and less fantasizing about chosing their ideal women from a lineup (Bond literally does this multiple times in this movie. No that's not a joke.)
